The supervising prosecutor initiated a public criminal prosecution against G.B., the former Mayor of Yerevan

The Prosecutor General’s Office examined the criminal case being investigated in the Investigation Department of the National Security Service of the RA. As a result, it has been found out that during 2002-2010, G.B., the Head of the "Kentron" district community of Yerevan, later the Mayor of Yerevan, took unlawfully a number of immovable properties of particularly large sizes in Yerevan and other settlements, by using his official post.

 

Later the mentioned official took measures to legalize the majority of the immovable properties subject to robbery in order to hide the real ownership of the property and distort the trace of their criminal origin, by using his official position and involving a number of people.

 

Due to these criminal activities, the buildings allocated to a number of pre-school educational institutions (kindergartens) were appropriated, as a result of which the activities of the pre-school educational institution were stopped, the rights and legal interests of several dozen children studying in the mentioned institutions were violated.

 

On 15 November 2022, the prosecutor supervising over the legality of the preliminary investigation adopted a decision to initiate a public criminal prosecution with 27 cases against G.B. under the Clause 1, Part 3 of the Article 179 of the Criminal Code of the RA adopted on 18 April 2003, with 25 cases under the Clause 1 and 3, Part 3 of the Article 190 of the Criminal Code of the RA adopted on 18 April 2003 and Part 2 of the Article 308 of the same Criminal Code.

 

The decision was sent to the Investigation Department of the National Security Service of the RA in order to bring an indictment against G.B.

 

Measures are undertaken in order to find out the framework of the affiliated persons and initiate a public criminal prosecution against them, as well as to recover the damages caused to the state.

 

Notice:  Every person charged with a criminal offense shall be presumed innocent unless proved guilty in the manner prescribed by the RA Criminal Procedure Code and unless the verdict comes into legal force.
