On October 3, 2025, the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, Aram Aramyan received a delegation headed by Mark Richard, the President of the Supreme Court of the Province of New Brunswick, Canada, who was on a working visit to Armenia.
The delegation was in Armenia within the framework of the 2025-2026 technical assistance program implemented jointly with the Supreme Judicial Council of the Republic of Armenia and the Office of the Federal Judicial Commissioner of Canada.
The Canadian delegation consisted of Carol Beaton, Judge of the Court of Appeal of the Province of Nova Scotia, Christine O’Doherty, Executive Director of the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice, and Oleg Shakov, Director of International Programs of the Office of the Federal Judicial Commissioner of Canada.
Aram Aramyan welcomed the Canadian colleagues at the Prosecutor General’s Office and highlighted the program launched with the Supreme Judicial Council aimed at promoting innovative approaches to effective investigation of drug-related criminal cases and prevention of such cases.
In this context, the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia presented the statistical data on illicit drug trafficking in Armenia to the colleagues from Canada, noting that in 2024 the number of recorded cases of illicit drug trafficking decreased with 1431 or 28.2% (in 2024 - 3639 cases, in 2023 - 5070 cases). "At the same time, the number of cases of illicit drug trafficking for the purpose of sale amounted to 1910, which decreased with 892 or 31.8% compared to the 2802 cases recorded in 2023," Aram Aramyan emphasized. In regard to the cases of illicit drug trafficking with the involvement of minors, he added that according to the data of the Police Information Center of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs, 6 cases were recorded in 2022, 10 cases in 2023, 7 cases in 2024, and 3 cases in the first 8 months of 2025.
