27/05/2025

Today, Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia participated in the panel discussion on “Upholding Justice-the Global Imperative of the Rule of Law” organized in the scope of “Yerevan Dialogue” second international forum.

Osvaldo Zavala Giler, Registrar of the International Criminal Court, Boštjan Škrlec, Chair of the Board of Relations with Partners, Eurojust, Nancy Okail, President and Chief Executive Officer for International Policy participated in the panel discussion.

Answering Sheila Paylan’s question on the importance of ratification of the Rome Statute, Anna Vardapetyan particularly mentioned:

“Ratification of the Rome Statute is a legal milestone – it’s a clear expression of Armenia’s commitment to the principles of accountability, justice and the rule of law, both domestically and globally.

International justice plays a vital role in actively shaping a more just and secure future.

For Armenia, this engagement strengthens institutional resilience and reinforces the message that impunity is no longer an option - for anyone, anywhere.

A modern state’s sovereignty is not only protected by its borders and armies but also by the strength and assertiveness of its legal mechanisms and institutions. Legal tools shape legal strategy, create security architecture to proactively guard against and respond to evolving threats.

Armenia does not only participate in international justice, but actively shapes and upholds its standards - integrating mentioned principles into our prosecutorial practice, legal reforms, and institutional culture.

Our engagement with international justice is a manifestation that Armenia stands with the community of nations that believe - justice is the most powerful shield for peace, security, and sovereignty.

Prosecution and prosecutors are at the forefront of the fight for justice, despite the significant challenges they are facing while fulfilling their obligations. The Prosecutor’s Office of Armenia has a commitment to preserve public confidence in the law, justice and most importantly upholding justice.

Justice is not an abstract aspiration – it’s a discipline, a duty and proper fulfillment of undertaken obligations”.
