Damage of AMD 2 billion 482 million 453 thousand caused to the state was restored in 2023. The work implemented by the Military Prosecutor's Office in 2023 has been summarized

On February 27, 2024, the work of the Military Prosecutor's Office implemented in 2023 were summarized under the leadership of Anna Vardapetyan, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia and Suren Papikyan, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia.

 

Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General, expressed her gratitude to Suren Papikyan, Minister of Defense, for accepting the invitation to attend the briefing and emphasized that the activities of the Military Prosecutor's Office had one common goal, i.e. to support the development of the defense sector and the army. “This year we have changed our approaches in the field of state interest’s protection. Our goal is to carry out more in-depth studies and we have already done some studies in several military units”,- the Prosecutor General noted and added that the Prosecutor's Office would do its best within the scope of its functions in order to return what had illegally been taken from the army.

 

“This year, as a result of the use of a prosecutorial toolkit, we have restored AMD 2.4 billion in the army”, - said Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia.

 

Suren Papikyan, Minister of Defense expressed his gratitude to Anna Vardapetyan for the invitation and emphasized that the tradition of inviting the Minister of Defense department to the summary of the annual activities of the Military Prosecutor's Office should be continued. Suren Papikyan singled out the importance of fighting against non-statutory relations and customs in the army, overcoming the problems in the process of conscription by legislative means and the need of returning the property seized from the army.

 

Grigor Elizbaryan, Military Prosecutor of the RA, Deputy Prosecutor General, presented the cases recorded in the army during 2023, the works carried out in the direction of their detection and prevention.

 

According to Military Prosecutor’s information, 2358 cases were recorded in the military units of the Armed Forces and other troops during the previous year (4570 in 2022). A decrease of 2212 cases or 48.4% was recorded.

 

The damage of AMD 2 billion 482 million 453 thousand caused to the state was recovered in 2023.

 

The aforementioned damage of AMD 2 billion 444 million 517 thousand was restored extra-judicially as a result of the use of prosecutorial intervention (47 warnings were sent to 45 business entities).

 

During 2023, the index of damage recovery to the state increased by 27.2% - AMD 531 million.

 

Anna Vardapetyan instructed the relevant Department of the Prosecutor's Office to amend the RA Prosecutor General's Order No 1, dated January 24, 2017 and to set the directions for the protection of state interests in the military sphere more specific and targeted.
