During December 11-15 Edgar Arsenyan, Head of the Department of Supervision over Legality of Pre-trial Proceedings in the RA Anti-Corruption Committee participated in the UNCAC Conference of States Parties in the Atlanta city, Georgia, USA.
Sasun Khachatryan, Chairman of the Anti-corruption committee was the head of the Armenian delegation.
In the scope of the conference, on December 14 Edgar Arsenyan delivered a speech and referred to the institutional reforms implemented in the anti-corruption field in Armenia, prevention of corruption as well as directions of the institutional fight.
In this context the Head of the Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office emphasized the creation of Anti-corruption committee consisting of specialized investigators for the purpose of increasing the efficiency of examination of corruption crimes as well as the formation of the Department of Supervision over Legality of Pre-trial Proceedings in the RA Anti-Corruption Committee in the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia in order to supervise the pre-trial criminal proceedings examined by the Committee and the formation of the Anti-corruption court in 2022 with three-level system of corruption crimes’ examination.
Edgar Arsenyan mentioned that the works of the Department for Confiscation of Property of Illicit Origin of the Prosecutor General’s Office are key to the fight against corruption.
“419 examinations has been initiated from the date of the formation of department until now (from September 2020 until September 2023). 93 statements of claim were submitted to the court in the scope of confiscation of property of illicit origin, based on which they required to confiscate in favor of the Republic of Armenia 1000 immovable, 200 movable properties and participation in 270 legal persons. The total cost of the claim amounted to AMD 500 billion. The Department for Confiscation of Property of Illicit Origin of the Prosecutor General’s Office has concluded 4 contracts according to which 6 immovable and 1 movable properties with the total price of about 2 billion 100 million as well as about AMD 79 million were transferred to the State,” highlighted Edgar Arsenyan.
