13.12.2022 | The Deputy Prosecutor General participated in the closure of the program "Human Rights and Women in the Armed Forces of Armenia - Phase II"

On December 13, the Deputy Prosecutor General Anahit Manasyan participated in the closing ceremony of the program "Human Rights and Women in the Armed Forces of Armenia - Phase II" implemented by the Council of Europe office in Yerevan.

 

The event was also attended by RA Deputy Minister of Defense, Arman Sargsyan, the Deputy Minister of Justice, Arpine Sargsyan, the Representative on International Legal Issues of the Office of Prime Minister, Yeghishe Kirakosyan, the Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan, Leila Zhdanova, and others.

 

The Deputy Prosecutor General Manasyan highly appreciated the activities of the Council of Europe office in Yerevan, underlining the role of the programs implemented by the Council of Europe office in ensuring the rule of law.

 

According to Anahit Manasyan, the implementation of the program also contributes to the expansion of women's involvement in the Armed Forces and aims at further strengthening democracy and the rule of law in the country.

 

In her speech, Anahit Manasyan also referred to the existing cooperation with the Prosecutor General's Office and the Council of Europe office, and presented directions for future joint activities.

 

The Deputy Prosecutor General especially emphasized the implementation of joint analysis, research and expert assistance in the investigation of cases of human rights violations, deaths and ill-treatments in the Armed Forces in order to make the investigation of cases more effective. Recalling the research on the positions expressed by the European Court of Human Rights within the framework of the program, Anahit Manasyan mentioned that they are of great importance from the point of view of analyzing and improving the full process of effective examination of cases.

 

During the discussion, the Deputy Prosecutor General of RA also emphasized the joint measures undertaken for the implementation of initial and continuous training programs for prosecutors, especially in the context of the exchange of international experience.

 

At the event announcing the end of the program, the head of the Division of Transversal Challenges of Human Rights of the General Directorate of Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe, the representatives of the Ministry of Defense and Ombudsman presented the outcomes of the program, and then the joint studies on the protection of whistleblowers in the armed forces of the member states of the Council of Europe were discussed.
