On the 4th of October the Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan met with the delegation headed by Lynn Tracy – the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to the Republic of Armenia.
The Ambassador congratulated Anna Vardapetyan on assuming that important position in the context of democratic developments and highlighted that the US government was aimed at expanding the existing cooperation with the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia.
Anna Vardapetyan attached importance to the meeting with the US Ambassador, stating that she was ready to develop the agenda of cooperation with the partners of the country supporting the democratic processes taking place in Armenia. The contribution by the Embassy to the professional qualification of Armenian prosecutors is highly appreciated in that context.
Upon request of the Ambassador, the Prosecutor General presented the priorities of the Prosecutor's Office, particularly, the efficiency of the fight against corruption, the investment of the confiscation of property of illegal origin and the effectiveness of the investigation of war crimes.
In regard with the situation caused in the result of the recent large-scale aggression by Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of Armenia, Anna Vardapetyan stated: "Democratic values and human rights are facing challenges again, and the states, bearing these values, on behalf of the USA, should assist Armenia's efforts to face them". In this regard Anna Vardapetyan highly appreciated the addressed statements made by the United States of America, reaffirming Armenia's position that the armed forces of Azerbaijan must be immediately withdrawn from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, the Armenian prisoners of war must be returned and the ceasefire maintained.
During the meeting, the Prosecutor General Vardapetyan and the Ambassador Lynn Tracy also discussed other items on the agenda.
