The RA Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan, who is in Cairo on an official visit, today met with the Prosecutor General of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Hamada El-Sawy.


Artur Davtyan thanked for the invitation and stressed that multi-level relations of trust and respect have been established between the RA and the ARE, which are confirmed by more than 50 signed documents on cooperation in almost all spheres of public life. An important part of them is the agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters signed in Cairo in 2007, which regulates relations in the field of mutual legal assistance, on the basis of which the RA Prosecutor's Office through the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs cooperates with the competent authorities of the ARE.


At present, Artur Davtyan highlighted the need to deepen cooperation between the prosecutor's offices of the two countries by the recent sharp increase in mutual visits of citizens, which raises the question of providing more effective means of guaranteeing their rights in both countries.


The Prosecutor General of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Hamada El-Sawy, welcomed the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia on his visit to his country and expressed confidence that this visit will be a new impetus for a new beginning in relations between the prosecutor's offices of the two countries.


During the meeting, the Prosecutor General assessed the role of the Armenian community in Egypt in all spheres of the country's public life, as well as the development of Armenian-Egyptian relations. Issues related to strengthening ties between the prosecutor's offices of the two countries, mutual legal assistance, as well as the development of cooperation in the fight against transnational crime were discussed.


Artur Davtyan and Hamada El-Sawy signed a memorandum of cooperation between the RA and ARE Prosecutor's Offices. The latter is aimed at cooperation in the fight against terrorism, transnational crime, including organized crime, corruption, cybercrime, human trafficking, economic crimes, illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, cultural values; at the exchange of experience on money laundering, terrorism and other matters; at advice on legal assistance and requests for extradition.


The memorandum also provides for mutual visits of prosecutors and experts in the framework of enriching experience, building capacity, and increasing the efficiency of the implementation of prosecutorial functions.
