11.06.2021 | About 312.000 m3 sand and gravel was illegally extracted from the basin of the Araks river. 9 criminal cases were initiated

 

Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia carried out measurement work in Ararat and Armavir Regions, in the basin of the Araks River, the outcomes of which were sent to the Department of State Interests Protection of the RA General Prosecutor's Office.

 

In the result of the measures undertaken by the Prosecutor's Office, in cooperation with the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia and Tax Information and Risk Analysis Department of the RA State Revenue Committee, numerous cases of illegal exploitation, violation of the exploitation rules of thousands of cubic meters of sand, illegal extraction, removal, transportation, storage and use of sand in the Ararat and Armavir Regions, in the basin of the Araks River, were detected.

 

In the result of the measures undertaken, the Department of Protection of State Interests of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Armenia have initiated 8 criminal cases under Article 290, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code, Article 291, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code.

 

According to the initiated criminal cases, it was found out that about 312 thousand cubic meters of sand and gravel was illegally extracted, which, according to preliminary calculations, caused the state about 143 million AMD damage and 10 million AMD damage was caused to the nature.

 

The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia was assigned to initiate preliminary investigation.

 

The RA Prosecutor's Office will use all its tools to carry out consistent work to find out the cases of exploitation and violations of mining resources in the field of Environmental protection to bring the guilty people to justice in accordance with the law.

 

Notice: Every person suspected in or charged with a criminal offense shall be presumed innocent unless proved guilty in the manner prescribed by the RA Criminal Procedure Code and unless the verdict comes into legal force.
