03.06.2021 | The meeting of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia and the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation took place in St. Petersburg

Today in St. Petersburg was held the meeting of the RA Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan with the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov, which became the third meeting of this year.


Issues related to the development of strong partnership relations between the RA and RF Prosecutor Generals' Offices, bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the fields of mutual legal assistance in criminal cases, extradition, as well as in the fight against international crime were discussed.


The parties particularly noted the recent positive trends in strengthening bilateral ties, which correspond to the spirit of strategic and allied relations between the two countries.


It was stated that the nature of the relationships between the two structures is such that it allows, on the basis of mutual trust and constructiveness, to resolve issues that are not always subject to settlement by international agreements as soon as possible.


Prosecutors General touched the issue of the mechanisms of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Armenia, Artsakh and the Prosecutor's Office, employees of the RF investigative body and the implementation of agreements between the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia and the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation in connection with the elimination of incidents of violation of the ceasefire on the Armenian-Azerbaijani line of contact.


The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia especially emphasized the interested and compassionate involvement of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and personally the involvement of Igor Krasnov in the process of resolving humanitarian issues that arose after the Artsakh war in 2020, and detection of missing and fallen soldiers during the hostilities, clarification of the verification of their data.


During the meeting, the RA Prosecutor General also touched the need to return captured and hold in Azerbaijan Armenian soldiers, civilians as well as to protect their rights in accordance with the international law and 8th point of the trilateral statement on the approval of the ceasefire signed by the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan on November 9, 2012. Artur Davtyan stressed that the full implementation of point 8 of the statement and the solution of humanitarian issues can become a sufficient guarantee for peace in the region, effective and safe cooperation in economic and other fields.


The parties agreed to continue regularly keep in touch through the mediating efforts of the Russian side in the direction of resolving the raised issues.


Following the meeting, Artur Davtyan and Igor Krasnov signed a Memorandum on priority areas of cooperation between the RA Prosecutor General's Office and the RF Prosecutor General's Office for 2021-2025.


These priorities include crimes in the field of information technology, terrorism and extremism, legalization of proceeds from crime, asset return from abroad, illegal circulation of weapons, explosives, drugs and psychotropic substances, corruption and the fight against the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism etc.
