27.11.2020 | The RA Military Prosecutor discussed with the representative of “Human Rights Watch’’ organization the issues of protecting the rights of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians captured in Azerbaijan

On November 27, the RA Military Prosecutor, Deputy Prosecutor General of the RA V. Harutyunyan met with Tanya Lokshina, the representative of Human Rights Watch's Europe and Central Asia division.

During the meeting, were discussed the factual circumstances of the criminal cases initiated on the facts of unleashing an aggressive war by the military-political leadership of the Republic of Azerbaijan against the Republic of Artsakh and the Republic of Armenia with the use of mercenaries recruited beforehand and prohibited weapons and methods of warfare.

The parties touched upon the cases of killing of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians during hostilities, as well as torture, cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment by representatives of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.

In his speech, the military prosecutor noted the importance of informing international human rights and other interested organizations about the facts of atrocities committed against Armenian prisoners of war and civilians in the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the need to provide additional guarantees for protecting the rights of victims.

T. Lokshina, expressing particular concern about the use of unacceptable weapons during the hostilities, expressed her readiness, within her competence, to support the protection of the rights of victims of hostilities.

During the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue further working cooperation.
