A regular meeting has been held in the Prosecutor's Office of Gegharkunik region of the Republic of Armenia in which the Deputy Governor, the heads of the RA Police and the regional departments of the RA Investigation Committee, as well as the heads of the urban communities of Gavar, Martuni, Sevan, Vardenis and Chambarak have taken part.
During the meeting, areas of cooperation between law enforcement agencies, territorial authorities and local government bodies in the fight against burglary, illegal logging and fishing in the region, as well as joint actions to prevent crimes committed by minors have been discussed.
The prosecutor of the region Rafayel Yeritsyan has presented the main trends of specified crimes in the administrative territory of the region and indicators of their detection. Heads of communities have expressed their willingness to take measures to allocate funds from community budgets to solve the problems. They were asked to discuss their implementation in two weeks. As part of the discussion of illegal logging, the prosecutor of the region has found the situation in Chambarak particularly alarming, considering that over the past three years, more than 900 cases of illegal logging have been registered in the region. Deputy Governor of Gegharkunik has added that there are woodworking shops in the region, and it is necessary to check the legality of buying wood. The task was to locate checkpoints in the relevant areas in a short period of time for example, to prevent illegal logging and to verify the legality of wood transportation. Rafael Yeritsyan has assured the participants that the prosecutor's office of the region will demonstrate consistency in obtaining information about the tasks and accomplishments achieved on the issues discussed in the agenda, and timely receiving the information.
