05.05.2017 | Preliminary investigation of criminal cases on the illegal import of apples from Azerbaijan and crimes committed by public officials has been instructed to the RA SIS

With a view to find out the circumstances of the import of apples from Azerbaijan in the Republic of Armenia, on the basis of the data obtained during the measures taken by the National Security Service adjunct to the Government of the Republic of Armenia, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 205, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code on the fact of tax evasion.


During the preliminary investigation of the case, data have been obtained on the fact of illegal transfer of agricultural products, including apples from Azerbaijan into the Armenian state border via Georgia.


In the result of measures taken by the officers of National Security Service it has been found out that the above-mentioned products have been transferred through the state border of Armenia without customs inspection and with customs officers’ allowance, in return for bribes.


Moreover, by preparing materials in Investigative Division of Violations Detection and Administrative Proceedings Implementation Department of State Revenue Committee adjunct to the Government of the Republic of Armenia it has been found out that a group of citizens had acquired apples of Azerbaijan origin, and sold them in the RA market.


By the above-mentioned materials have been obtained data concerning the fact that, from December, 2016 to April 2017 customs officials of Bagratashen checkpoint have regularly received bribes from illegal businessmen, for smuggling fruits and vegetables through the state border of the Republic of Armenia.


On the facts of bribery and illegal entrepreneurship Investigative Division of Violations Detection and Administrative Proceedings Implementation Department of State Revenue Committee adjunct to the Government of the Republic of Armenia has initiated a criminal case under Article 188, Part 2 and Article 311, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code.


Taking into account, that the above-mentioned criminal cases relate to flagrant crimes committed by public officials, the preliminary investigation of the cases has been instructed to the RA SIS under Article 190 of the RA Criminal Procedure Code.


The body, conducting preliminary investigation has been instructed to take all the measures, prescribed by law to reveal all the circumstances of the cases.
