15.11.2016 | The representatives of the RA Prosecutor General’s Office, Human Rights Defender’s Office and NGOs discussed the issues concerning the effectiveness of investigation of the criminal cases, instituted on the fact of use of torture and ill-treatment

In pursuit of the agreements reached during the meeting with the NGOs on 13.10.16, in the RA Prosecutor General’s Office the first working meeting was held today at the RA Prosecutor General’s Office. The representatives of the NGOs – “Journalists for Human Rights”,” Civil Society Institute”, “Armenian Lawyers' Association”, Head of the Department of Prevention of Torture and Ill-treatment of the Human Rights Defender’s Office Staff as well as the members of the working group, created in the RA Prosecutor General’s Office for the study of the effectiveness of investigation of the criminal cases, instituted on the fact of use of torture and ill-treatment, participated in it.

 

The participants of the meeting presented their comments, feedbacks and suggestions on issue in question.

 

During the discussion mechanisms have been drawn up, the possibility of the implementation of which will allow to prevent or reduce cases of torture and ill-treatment during the investigation and will ensure the effectiveness of the investigation of those cases. It was mentioned that as a result of the complex, comprehensive study of the discussed mechanisms and the methods of their implementation, clear mechanisms for practical application will be developed. An agreement has been reached to make the working meetings periodic for the efficiency of the cooperation.

 

The working meetings with the NGOs, depending on the sphere of their activities, in the RA Prosecutor General’s Office will be continuous.
