USD 1.5 million shall be transferred to the Republic of Armenia: the Prosecutor General’s Office concluded another reconciliation agreement

On February 15, 2024, the Prosecutor General’s Office concluded a reconciliation agreement with Hovik Abovyan the former governor of Tavush region and related parties in the scope of its function of confiscation of property having illicit origin.

 

Let us remind that on July 31 2021 the former governor of Tavush region was involved as a defendant for the commission of publicly dangerous actions envisaged by part 2 of article 314.3 of the Criminal Code adopted on 18.04.2003.

 

On August 16, 2021 the Department of Confiscation of Property of Illicit origin of the Prosecutor General’s Office started an examination of the property belonging to Hovik Abovyan.

 

On January 23, 2024, as a result of the examination a statement of claim was submitted to the Anti-corruption committee on confiscation of property of illicit origin.

 

On January 22, 2024 Hovik Abovyan and related parties submitted an application to the Prosecutor General’s Office on completing the examination of the case with reconciliation agreement and they stated that they are willing to transfer AMD 608 million 634 thousand (USD 1.5 million) to the Republic of Armenia which is 75.84% of the value of the statement of claim on the confiscation of property of illicit origin submitted to the court.

 

Based on the application a reconciliation agreement was signed between Hovik Abovyan (related parties) and the Prosecutor General’s Office on February 15, 2024, which was submitted to the Anti-corruption court on the same day for the purpose of approval pursuant to the order prescribed by law.

 

In the order envisaged by the Civil Procedure Code the reconciliation agreement shall be approved by the court within one months.
