22.07.2019 | For taking bribes on a large scale the senior prosecutor of the RA Prosecutor General's Office has been brought as an accused by the acting prosecutor general of the RA

On the basis of materials, in the framework of the criminal case initiated in the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, acting Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia decided to involve the senior prosecutor of the Prosecutor  General’s Office L. K.  as an accused on the grounds of part 3 of Art. 311 of the RA Criminal Code.


In the framework of the criminal case  under investigation, sufficient evidence was obtained that the senior  prosecutor of the Prosecutor General's Office, using his official  powers, in June of the current year demanded and received a bribe on  an especially large scale in order not to hinder the petition during  the trial. Conditionally early release from custody of G. G., who in  2013 was sentenced to 10 years in prison under  aggravating circumstances (paragraph 3 of part 3 of article 175 of  the RA CC).


By order of the acting prosecutor general, the powers of the prosecutor L. K . are suspended. The petition on the choice of detention as a preventive measure was submitted to the court of first instance of the general jurisdiction of Yerevan.


The preliminary investigation continues, with appropriate prosecutorial oversight in the criminal case, measures are taken to ensure a thorough, complete and impartial investigation into the circumstances of the case. It is worth reminding that the RA Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan has repeatedly stated during public speeches and seminars that corruption crimes committed by prosecutors are unacceptable in any way and that it is necessary to refrain from this.


Respecting the presumption of innocence, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Armenia continues to act in the same spirit, in the framework of the criminal case, it will exercise due process supervision and the publicity of the criminal case will be ensured within the limits of its admissibility.


Note: Every person suspected in or charged with a criminal offense shall be presumed innocent unless proved guilty in the manner prescribed by the RA Criminal Procedure Code and unless the verdict comes into legal force.
